Upon some digging and trial and error I developed the following method which worked on two 2.2.1 Glaciers I had in possession. I think this is the simplest way to accomplish permanent root and S=OFF. This guide will assume you’ve got ADB set up and have some computer knowledge and are running Windows. Obviously I am not responsible nor liable for anything you do.

How to root HTC Glacier / Mytouch 4g (2.2.1):

Download Visionary APK and install it on your phone. -Visionary Home -Visionary Download

Download GFREE and extract it to your ADB folder

Download Terminal Emulator from Android Market

Download Rom Manager

Run Visionary, check Temproot on Boot and Set System r/w After Root

While still in Visionary click Attempt Temproot Now

Run CMD to your adb directory - CD C:/youradbdir/adb

While still in CMD type adb push gfree /data/local and press enter

Unplug your device

Open Terminal Emulator and type su

Type cd /data/local and press enter

Type chmod 777 gfree and press enter

Type ./gfree and press enter

Turn off device

After device is off: hold volume down and power, this will HBOOT. It should say S=OFF

Reboot the device and launch Visionary again, Attempt Permroot

Reboot device

Run Rom Manager and install Clockworkmod

Install your favorite ROM :)

How to run a combination of Google Voice, Trapcall, and your Carrier's voicemail at the same time.

How to run a combination of Google Voice, Trapcall, and your Carrier’s voicemail at the same time.

PREFACE:

You can use a combination of Google Voice number and voicemail, your carrier number and voicemail, and Trapcall to have ultimate power and control over your phone.

All calls which you hang up on are unmasked.

All Google Voice calls go to Google Voicemail unless you hang up.

All carrier calls go to carrier voicemail.

It is impossible to unmask calls to Google Voice with trapcall so Google Voice should be used as the line that won’t get blocked calls. For me this is the business line.

INITIAL STEPS:

Go to your dialer and dial ##004#, this will clear all conditional call forwards.

Set forwarding as busy to Trapcall. *67*12062992100#

Keep other stuff default

BONUS:

Use application Root Call Blocker to reject all Private & Withheld Numbers – this will ensure your phone call does not ring and you the call unmasked as soon as possible.

Use trapcall app if your phone is not rooted to auto reject unknown calls.

Read this for a better understanding of call forwarding.

This has only been tested on an android device so far, if this works please comment :)

I ran some basic testing and was able to verify that Google Voice was able to normally display the caller ID on other devices and carriers.

This singled it down to either a carrier or software issue, so I factory wiped and put on a different OS.That was a huge waste of time so I began to suspect T-Mobile and called in to get support, they forced me to do 1 hour of tests and blamed me in the end because my phone is rooted. I went to the T-Mobile store and attempted to get a new phone number, they tried to force me to pay $15.

I called customer support and they would not give me the number until they did tests, I explained that I don’t have time to waste troubleshooting problems without getting paid and that I am a customer, not their tech support. The customer service finally relented and gave me a new number for free after saying that they are “99% sure it will not fix the problem”. It fixed the problem 100%.

So how do you fix this problem?

Get a new number from your carrier – it is probably their fault and they will use every excuse to say it is not. If this solved your issue post in the comments so there would be some sort of evidence customers can use to get the service they pay for.

The purpose of this mod is to remove carrier throttling and make it harder for Google to know who you are and where you are while improving your GPS performance.

By using Sony Ericson AGPS servers Google gets the boot and SE cannot link your GPS location to your person as they know nothing of you. Secondly I reference us.pool.ntp.org and north-america.pool.ntp.org while CM7, by default, only references north-america.pool.ntp.org

The full changes are as follows:

Unthrottled service per this guide

Agps kicked off to Sony Ericson instead of Google

GPS Optimized for US territories rather than North America

Wifi scan interval changed to 100 seconds instead of 15

Removed protips.apk and email.apk – use K9 mail instead.

Link to download is below (MD5: AE1CDEEDB62F865D7FD5C9B52A9F907C ).

<s>Sometimes</s> Always market/carrier restrictions end up hampering the user’s experience.

One such instance is T-Mobile’s visual voicemail and I will show you how to fix the problem:

The first step you want to do is call T-Mobile customer (Tel:800-866-2453) and ask to have visual voicemail activated on your account.

Next it is important to have patience as you must wait – I was advised it would be for two hours.

If, within a reasonable ammount of time you are still unable to download the app from market follow do the next steps:

Get App Installer from Market

Download tmo-vvm-1-2-19.apk (mirror removed for copyright violation) and place it on your phone’s sdcard. You can get the newest version but as I can tell the only thing difference is an embedded advertisement.

Use App Installer to install the downloaded apk (It will not work with default installer)

Fin.

As a bonus – Google Voice offers a slightly better voicemail service. I recommend that you keep your private life out of Google’s servers ;). Out of all carriers T-Mobile has the best data retention policies, comparatively of course.

Usually, if you wanted to make a new post, page, media, etc. in Word Press, you would have to click once on the sidebar then click the “new” button once again after the page loads. Doing this over and over will waste a lot of time. To someone who has a business or reason for a website, time is money. There is a drop-down style “Admin Bar” that you can enable, which helps to lessen the amount of pages you have to load. For instance if you wanted to upload a new media, you would normally have to click on “media” and then click “add new” after that page loaded. With the admin bar, all you would have to do is go to the “Add New” drop down menu, and click on media. This takes you directly to the upload media page. Setting it up is different depending on what style of account you have, administrator or author. This is a step by step guide on how to active such a tool, on both types of accounts, administrator followed by author.

Admin Account

Step One is to log in. To do that, enter your Word Press Account and Password into the required fields.
2. Step Two will take you to your admin Dashboard page, which looks something like the image below.

3. Step Three will be to look around on your left side menu bar, and to find the button labeled “Users”. This is where you will click to take you to a list of users registered to the site.
4. Step Four is to click on the User profile you are currently signed into.

5. Step Five is the page that you are taken to for your user profile options. Here you can change various options that directly affect your log in account.
6. Step Six is to look under “Personal Options” in the “Users” page. You are looking for an option labeled “Show Admin Bar. Make sure the box next to “Show Admin Bar” is checked, to enable your Admin Bar.

7. Step Seven is to save your changes. This is done by scrolling to the very bottom of the page, and clicking on the “Update Profile” button. After you finish step six, your admin bar appears at the top of the Word Press dashboard page.

8. From the Admin Account, you can see the applicable plugin options and updates as well as drop down menus for adding new media, posts, pages, links, users, themes, and plugins. There is a search bar in the top right of the Admin Bar that can quickly search for any of your Word Press posts. By dropping down the menu under your account name you can choose to edit your account options (See Step Five) or log off. There is an option for quick editing of widgets, menus, and themes under the appearance in a drop down menu. In addition, there is quick view buttons for both the site, and for the current post (if you are currently working in a post).

Author Account

1. Step One is to log in. To do that, enter your Word Press Account and Password into the required fields.
2. Step Two will take you to your Dashboard page, which looks something like the image below.

3. Step Three will be to look around on your left side menu bar, and to find the button labeled “Profile”. This is where you will click to take you to your specific profile options.

5. Step Five is to look under “Personal Options” in the “Profile” page. You are looking for an option labeled “Show Admin Bar. Make sure the box next to “Show Admin Bar” is checked, to enable your Admin Bar.

6. Step Six is to save your changes. This is done by scrolling to the very bottom of the page, and clicking on the “Update Profile” button. After you finish step six, your admin bar appears at the top of the Word Press dashboard page.

7. From the Author Account, you can see the applicable plugin options and drop down menus for adding new media or posts. There is a search bar in the top right of the Admin Bar that can quickly search for and of your Word Press posts. By dropping down the menu under your account name you can chose to edit your account options (See Step Four) or log off.
